Abstract

The article presents a linguopragmatic study of the “habit” concept in English motivational discourse on the material of James Clear’s “Atomic Habits” (2018). The analysis identifies four central pragmatic mechanisms through which the concept is constructed: the four-stage habit loop (cue, craving, response, reward) as a cognitive-procedural frame; the Four Laws of Behavior Change as a deontic-modal directive system; the identity-vote metaphor as a performative-pragmatic device; and the compound-interest metaphor as a pragmatic strategy of long-term persuasion. Authentic citations from Clear’s text serve as the empirical material.
