Abstract

You've felt it before. The flutter of nerves before a big presentation. The knot in your  stomach when you receive bad news. For most of human history, we treated these  sensations as poetic curiosities — the gut somehow 'knowing' what the mind refuses  to admit. Ancient writers spoke of bowels of compassion and burning courage. It  turns out they were onto something far more literal than they could have imagined.  Today, one of the most exciting frontiers in medicine sits at the unlikely intersection  of two disciplines that barely spoke a generation ago: nutrition and neuroscience.
