Abstract

Language development is a continuous process shaped by social transformation, technological innovation, cultural interaction, and changes in human communication. One of the most significant manifestations of this process is the emergence of neologisms, which are newly created words or expressions, as well as existing words that acquire new meanings. In contemporary English, neologisms emerge in response to developments in digital technology, artificial intelligence, social media, science, popular culture, and global communication. This article examines the role of neologisms in the development of modern English, focusing on their formation, classification, dissemination, and influence on vocabulary expansion. Particular attention is given to word formation processes such as compounding, blending, affixation, abbreviation, borrowing, and semantic change. The article also considers the role of digital communication in popularising new lexical items and discusses the challenges associated with their interpretation, standardisation, and long-term acceptance. The analysis demonstrates that neologisms reflect the changing needs of English speakers and contribute significantly to the flexibility and expressive potential of the language.
