Abstract

The article examines the settlement of Turkmens in the Kashkadarya oasis,  focusing on the Mirishkor, Kasbi, Koson and Muborak districts of the Karshi steppe, their  tribal and clan composition, and their demographic dynamics in the late twentiet h and  early  twenty-first  centuries.  Drawing  on  historical-ethnographic  literature,  the  1926  regionalization materials, independence-period statistics and the preliminary results of the  2026 census, the study shows that local Turkmens are linked mainly with the Ersari tribe  of the Middle Amu Darya and identifies the stages and drivers of their migration.
