Abstract
The APGAR scoring system is a simple and effective method used worldwide toassess the physical condition of newborn infants immediately after birth. Developed by Dr. VirginiaApgar in 1952, this scoring system evaluates five essential clinical parameters: heart rate, respiratory effort, muscle tone, reflex irritability, and skin coloration. The APGAR score providesrapid information about the newborn's adaptation to extrauterine life and helps healthcareprofessionals identify infants requiring immediate medical intervention. This article examines thesignificance, methodology, and clinical applications of APGAR assessment in neonatal care. Therole of APGAR scoring in improving neonatal outcomes and reducing the risk of complications isalso discussed.
