Abstract
Orientalism (from the Latin orientalis - “eastern”) is a popular trend in Western culture for creating works of art using exotic oriental motifs, subjects and styles. Orientalism reveals to the viewer the world of the East in a romantically attractive and rather conventional image. This trend gradually developed in Europe based on many sources: oriental legends and literature, travel and scientific works, works of fine art and archaeological discoveries. In this article we will look at the influence of Orientalism on Russian culture, in particular on its influence and development in Russian literature of the early 20th century.
